Alliance for Artificial Intelligence Publishes New Whitepaper: “The Future of Healthcare Is Human”

Offers guidance on how AI will help to make healthcare more human-centric, counter to mass concerns spurred by GPT4 and other generative AI technologies.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF – 17 May 2023Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AAIH), a 501(c)(4) non-profit advocacy and educational organization dedicated to promoting the development and implementation of AI in healthcare, today announced the release of a new whitepaper, The Future of Healthcare Is Human at the organization’s Annual Member meeting.

The Future of Healthcare Is Human explores how the explosion of AI, converging with advances in biomedical data generation and aggregation and driving regulatory frameworks for technology adoption, sets the stage for a wave of healthcare innovation. Counter to concerns AI is facing, AAIH describes how this innovation can help to make healthcare more human-centric. The whitepaper offers key examples to illustrate how AAIH member companies and others are using AI/ML to bring medicines to patients needing them faster and with a higher probability of success.

“With the creation of tools like GPT4 and the many questions surfacing about the impact of AI on society at large, evaluating AI’s direct effects on healthcare is a critical aspect of the equation,” said Brandon Allgood, Ph.D., lead author of the paper and former chairperson of the board of AAIH.  “The Future of Healthcare Is Human serves as an essential primer on navigating the application of AI to drug development and furthers our commitment to providing resources that inform our members, the healthcare community, and society at large with important guidance for AI in healthcare. Adapting AI approaches into our industry benefits patients significantly as it produces more accurate diagnoses and improves treatment plans.”

The 2023 AAIH Annual Meeting is hosted by Genentech at their campus in South San Francisco, Calif., on May 17-18, 2023. This two-day summit explores different vantages of shared challenges and ideates on the future we're working to build. The program is highlighted by panels by industry leaders on how AI impacts diversity and equity, data access, SaMD, drug discovery & development, and point of care, two exceptional keynotes by Chris Gibson of Recursion and Sharat Israni of the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute at UCSF, and plenty of small roundtable discussions on how to continue progress to make an impact for patients.
